The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is pleased to present the Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling.

English-speaking journalists who are currently employed by print, broadcast, or internet news outlets in Africa are eligible to enter this contest. For consideration, candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of journalism experience. A published paper must be submitted. The reward includes a $5,000 cash prize and additional perks.

Eligible Courses

The Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling is a scheme that looks to reward high-achieving internationals, and it is only available for the course below:

  • The candidates must be identified as journalists working in Africa for print, broadcast, and online news media.

All of the following will be provided by the university:

  • The International Center for Journalists presents the victors with a personalized crystal award and a monetary reward of $5,000. (ICFJ). Additionally, they will have the choice of spending up to two weeks at The Economist’s London headquarters or participating in a custom study tour of US newsrooms.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling:

  • The candidates must be employed by print, broadcast, and internet news outlets in Africa.
  • The candidates’ publications have to be sent in between December 1 and December 1 2021–2022.

Application Procedure

The following procedure remains the only viable route to apply properly:

  • To be eligible for this prize, applicants must submit an online application form.
  • The applicants must present a well-reported article or series that demonstrates excellent storytelling about significant challenges in Africa, a CV, professional references, and other relevant materials.
  • Admission Qualifications: Candidates must be journalists with a maximum of 10 years of experience.
  • The applicants must be native speakers of the language they publish in, which is probably English.
